MARKETING STATEMENT

The Police Training Coordinator Fitness will work in The Metro Transit Police Department (MTPD), which is responsible for the enforcement of laws, regulations, and ordinances for crimes committed on, to, or against facilities owned, controlled, or operated by the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority.

The Police Training Coordinator Fitness develops fitness courses for work performance testing as required and approved by DCJS and MPCTC. Additionally, the incumbent will provide instruction to officers on nutrition and weight control, flexibility, cardiovascular fitness, strength training, endurance and the prevention and treatment of exercise-induced injuries.

Moreover, the hire will conduct physical fitness work performance testing and pre-hire screening.

The minimum annual starting salary for this role is $83,784. Those who are exceptionally qualified may receive a higher starting salary up to $126K.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education

  • High School diploma or GED

Experience

  • Five (5) or more years of Law enforcement, Corrections, or Emergency Communications experience is required, and must include 2 years of experience training law enforcement personnel in physical fitness.

Certification/Licensure

  • Must be able to obtain DCJS General Instructor certification within 12 months of hire and maintain it while in this job.

  • Must be able to obtain Law-fit certification within 12 months of hire and maintain it while in this job.

  • Must be able to obtain CPR certification within 12 months of hire and maintain it while in this job.

Preferred

  • A Bachelor’s degree in criminal justice or related field is preferred. Medical Group: Ability to satisfactorily complete the medical examination for this class. Mission Essential Designation: In accordance with the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority’s Continuity of Operations Plan (COOP) this job has been identified as critical to mission essential functions. Incumbents in this role may be required to report to or continue to work in the event of authorized office closings or service suspensions due to severe weather, natural disaster, fire, operational emergencies or related events. SUMMARY The Police Training Coordinator - Fitness present information and instructs students and officers on health and wellness, strength, and physical conditioning. The coordinator performs physical fitness assessments and ensures testing protocols. The incumbent provides program design, exercise leadership and information regarding basic anatomy, exercise physiology, injury prevention, nutrition and basic strength movements. The coordinator develops and maintains a fitness program that meets the needs of the Training Division and complies with requirements and mandates from the District of Columbia, the Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS) and the Maryland Police and Corrections Training Commission (MPCTC). ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Instructs individual classes in accordance with Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS), Maryland Police and Corrections Training Commission (MPCTC), District of Columbia, and Academy guidelines.

  • Develops fitness courses for work performance testing as required and approved by DCJS and MPCTC.

  • Provides instruction to officers on Nutrition and Weight Control, Flexibility, cardiovascular fitness, strength training, endurance and the prevention and treatment of Exercise-Induced Injuries.

  • Sets up and maintains classrooms, briefs training classes, maintains student training records including attendance, creates and updates handouts and training aids.

  • Ensures student safety and welfare at all times.

  • Conducts physical fitness work performance testing and pre-hire screening.

  • Completes health and fitness assessments of police officers.

  • Works with MPCTC and DCJS to ensure MTPD training meets and complies with all mandated standards and best practices.

  • OTHER FUNCTIONS

  • Assist with instruction of other police training courses as necessary. The functions listed are not intended to limit specific duties and responsibilities of any particular position.
