Government Relations Specialist

POSITION SUMMARY

The GR Specialist is responsible for engaging federal, state and county Medicaid agencies to advocate on behalf of members and support BeneLynk’s goal to help them get the benefits to which they are entitled. The specialist directly supports the Vice President of Government Relations and maintains strong working relationships with internal stakeholders.

The role is responsible for understanding company goals, operational environment and constraints, and works with government entities and the BeneLynk team to deliver the services and solutions that achieve those goals.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement government relations strategies which amplify company differentiators.

  • Obtain Medicaid application outcome information from state agencies when written notice wasn’t received, and CMS records do not reflect Medicaid enrollment

  • Process state correspondence and analyze state eligibility decisions for accuracy. Provide direct member advocacy to resolve errors, including filing appeals on behalf of members and representing them at fair hearings as needed.

  • Monitor data to identify trends that negatively impact members and company revenue to analyze opportunities and implement internal process improvements.

  • Develop and maintain relationships with government and/or local community agency representatives and key external stakeholders.

  • Maintain current knowledge of state and federal Medicaid eligibility and regulatory requirements.

  • Conduct Medicaid/SNAP policy research and document state-specific policies and procedures for internal use; Monitor states’ Medicaid/SNAP program and policy changes, and analyze and communicate operational impacts

  • Advises the VP of Government Relations and/or other operations teams of any relevant process implications; new ideas and/or process improvement suggestions.

  • Conduct QA reviews, call monitoring and state notice processing as needed to ensure QA/GR team goals are met.

  • Promote a culture of excellence, working cooperatively with all staff to identify solutions, enhance services and mitigate errors to improve operations.

  • Participate as required in BeneLynk’s staff and operational development programs. Be a team player and communicate openly and honestly. Demonstrate behaviors, actions, and attitude that reflect BeneLynk’s vision, mission and values.

  • Other duties as assigned.

    QUALIFICATIONS

  • Education – associate degree or equivalent experience in health care administration, business, finance or a related field from an accredited college or university or equivalent experience and education which demonstrates the ability to perform the functions of the position.

  • Experience – One year of experience with demonstrated success in member advocacy. Demonstrated behavior of paying attention to detail, understanding of Medicaid eligibility and ability to effectively prioritize work.

  • Language Skills – Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to communicate with elderly and disabled individuals. Bi-lingual (English & Spanish) preferred.
