Housing & Food Services (HFS) provides on-campus housing to over 10,000 student residents and operates over 40 dining and café locations that serve the entire campus community. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Provide coverage for absences and peak service periods in Retail and Residential Dining, cooking from recipes and customer specifications using the CBORD Food Service System (FSS)

  • Prepare menu items including proteins, vegetables, starches, sauces and baked items using scratch ingredients

  • Perform display cooking

  • Consult with supervisor on recipes to determine the daily tasks.

  • Ensure that the station is properly stocked

  • Use the production methods prescribed in the FSS.

  • Provide direction to Food Service Workers 1 and 2 as well as student employees.

  • Monitor prepared foods for compliance with Washington State health code regulations, including taking and recording food temperatures before the food leaves the production area

  • Participate in cleaning and sanitizing of the kitchen’s tables and equipment

  • Ensure that all foods used for the meal are properly wrapped, dated, labeled and stored before the close of the shift

  • Work with other staff to ensure that all items in walk-in and in other storage areas are properly labeled and rotated correctly

  • Maintain records of foods produced, foods wasted, and any recipe adjustments for the manager

  • Inspect food service equipment to determine proper care, use and operation; report malfunctions to the supervisor

  • Ensure that security and safety requirements are met; follow up with staff and supervisor on any issues

  • Perform related duties as requested

  • Participate in taking inventory.Supervision ReceivedGeneral supervision, where recurring assignments are performed without daily oversight. Employee follows established recipes, policies, procedures and work methods. Decision making is limited in context to the completion of work tasks. Supervisory guidance is provided for new or unusual situations.Position DimensionsThis position will work in Residential or Retail Dining and can be expected to work in various locations on the Seattle Campus and at South Lake Union. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • Possession of, or eligible to obtain a Washington State Food Worker Card within two weeks of employment AND one year of experience preparing and serving food and maintaining clean work area; or equivalent education/experience. ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS Experience that demonstrates

  • Ability to apply knowledge of processes involved, production methods, and products to the nuances of everyday operation

  • Ability to explain cooking techniques to entry level staff with little knowledge of food service

  • Success working in environments where there is continuous interaction with diverse guests and staff throughout the work shift, up to 7.5 hours a day.

  • Ability to multi-task, where interaction with staff and cooking occur simultaneously

  • Ability to maintain attendance and punctuality based on a work schedule where hours of work will vary based on business needs

  • Ability to use the Internet, email, and familiarity with basic computer applications CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT A satisfactory outcome from the reference check processes.
