Job Description Summary

Work as a mechanical technician for the project engineering group. As the mechanical technician you will be responsible for completing tasks for those projects being managed by the department. These tasks will include but are not limited to assembling/troubleshooting prototype machinery, installing new equipment on existing production lines, using mill/lathe machining centers and 3D printers to fabricate simple components, assist with feasibility studies to assess product design changes and maintain 5S standards within the department's project build area.

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES:

1) Work on assigned tasks from the project engineering group. Work closely with the project engineers to understand assigned project tasks.

2) Complete assigned tasks in a timely manner and provide task updates to the project engineers.

3) Build and fabricate prototype machinery and processes. This will include machining simple components on mill and lathe machining centers and operating 3D printer(s). Run prototype machinery and provide assessments on machine performance.

4) Diagnose root cause of equipment issues and countermeasures through the use of A3 problem solving methodology.

5) Work with engineers to iterate upon machine design and improve equipment performance. Draw and modify new and existing parts using Auto-CAD and SolidWorks as required.

6) Develop project management skillset by taking ownership of smaller scope design and/or process improvement projects.

7) Work as a team member on cross-functional product design change projects.

8) Work as the 5S coordinator for the department’s project build area. This will include organizing project spaces, managing excess project inventories and organizing/enforcing the cleanliness and organization of machining centers.

8) Work collaboratively and effectively with the engineering project team and outside departments. This includes being able to effectively express ideas and opinions in team settings while taking into account other’s input.

9) Follow established safety rules and policies including lock out/tag out procedures when working on equipment.

10) Work overtime as needed by the department. Work flexible hours as business needs require.

REQUIREMENTS :

  • AS /AA Degree in a related technical field or equivalent experience

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in repairing industrial equipment/machinery and high speed assembly and packaging machinery

  • Must have a working knowledge of electronic, pneumatic, hydraulic, and mechanical systems

  • Must be able to work from blueprints, rough sketches, or verbal instructions

  • Must know and understand both metric and American measuring systems

  • Experience with manual mill/lathe machining centers (preferred)

  • Effective written and oral communications skills (English), math skills, and interpersonal skills
