Your Specific Responsibilities:

This Other Personal Services (OPS) Health Support Aide is a para-professional level position that reports directly to the Community Health Nursing (CHN) Consultant for School Health with the Florida Department of Health in Collier County (DOH-Collier). The incumbent will be expected to work in community-based settings when required including assigned schools. The position is responsible for assisting with all aspects of the “School Health Screening Program” located within the DOH Collier. The incumbent of this position is expected to perform assigned duties with minimal supervision and participate in the transport, set-up and provision of school screenings which include vision, hearing, growth and development and scoliosis, along with the referral and follow-up for students that are referred for services. The incumbent will be responsible for assisting with data collection and entry functions for the school health program as well as organization of school health screening records. This includes working with the Collier County Public Schools to access the student health records database system used at the time and ensuring the information submitted into the database is accurate and performed in a timely fashion (to be determined by the CHN). The incumbent of this position serves as the official records custodian for assigned schools and is expected to participate in quality improvement activities. Position collaborates with other school health staff to update and revise all School Health Forms, documents, School Health calendars for screenings, and will be expected to perform other tasks and or projects considered priorities to be determined by the CHN. OPS positions are considered temporary positions.

During school screening season (August-December), this position is anticipated to work 3 days per week and approximately 24-28 hours per week. This position is at risk for exposure to blood and airborne pathogens. Annual TB and Immunization screening is required upon hire.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of and ability to use basic computer operations including data entry functions and Microsoft Applications such as Excel, Word, Outlook, etc.

  • Ability to accurately use health screening equipment for vision, hearing growth and development evaluations

  • Ability to use continuous quality improvement tools and processes to accurately and efficiently capture and tabulate screening data

  • Ability to collaborate and communicate effectively with other DOH staff, Collier County Public School staff and community partners

  • Ability to be responsible for maintaining information in accordance with state and federal statutes, rules, regulations, and Department of Health policy as it relates to Information Custodian

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality

  • Ability to work effectively with minimal supervision.

    Qualifications:

    Required:

  • A valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.

  • American Heart Association cardiopulmonary resuscitation certification (CPR) required after hire.

  • Ability to lift 50 lbs and transport equipment in vehicle.

  • Emergency duty required of the incumbent includes working in special needs or Red Cross shelters; or performing other emergency duties including, but not limited to, responses to or threats involving any disaster or threat of disaster, man-made or natural.

  • Incumbent is expected to work beyond the normal workday in the event of a disaster or as needed.

    Preferred:

  • A High School diploma or equivalent.

  • Fluency in English/Spanish (both verbal and written).
