Job Summary:

This position is for a Senior Mechanical Engineer who will work on various projects as part of the NS&E execution center team. The projects that will be assigned involve government work throughout various sectors, including DOD and DOE. The successful candidate must have strong organizational and teamwork skills, proven problem-solving skills, can-do attitude, and the desire to innovate designs.

In this position, the engineer will support design development of Mechanical systems and equipment (including HVAC and Fire Protection) for project(s) by preparing studies, drawings, calculations, material requisitions, engineering specifications, data sheets, evaluation, and more in accordance with applicable procedures, codes, standards, and contract requirements. The engineer will work with other mechanical engineers, other disciplines/functions, and/or the client.

This role will be based in Knoxville, TN with periodic business travel, as required.#LI-TN1

Major Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate within the mechanical group and other disciplines/functions independently in developing system designs and equipment identification in a team environment.

  • Resolve technical issues related to the discipline independently including any required interface with other disciplines, functions, vendors, and/or client.

  • Originate and/or revise Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs), calculations, data sheets, material requisitions, and specifications.

  • Execute schedule requirements while maintaining a high degree of quality in work products.

  • Support development of project cost and schedule estimates.

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Level 1- Requires a bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) and 5-8 years of relevant experience or 9-12 years of relevant work experience

  • Level 2- Requires a bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) and 8-10 years of relevant experience or 12-14 years of relevant work experience

  • Must be able to complete a pre-employment drug screen and background check.

  • Must be a U.S. citizen.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Related experience includes, but is not limited to, experience in Piping and Instrument Diagram (P&ID) development, fluid system design, hydraulic, heat transfer, and thermodynamic calculations, and equipment specification and design. development for waste processing, nuclear, refinery, power, or chemical process facilities.

  • Knowledge of industry and regulatory guides, codes, and standards.

  • Hands-on Microsoft office programs and other computer programs.

  • Extensive knowledge of mechanical engineering work processes, procedures, and specifications.

  • Excellent oral and written communication, planning, and organizational skills.

  • Engineering in Training certification in the US, or ability to obtain within 12 months of hire.

  • Prior experience working in an execution center environment and demonstrated flexibility in work assignments.

  • MS degree in Mechanical (or related) Engineering from an accredited university or college.

  • Experience working with procedures meeting quality assurance programs such as ASME-NQA-1, MIL-Q-9858A, or ISO-9000.

  • Previous Bechtel and/or DOD or DOE project experience.

  • Registered Professional Engineer in the USA (Mechanical or related).
