I. Primary Function/General Purpose of Position
The incumbent shall be responsible for providing a full range of speech-language pathology services including assessment, treatment planning and therapeutic interventions in a team environment consistent with the position’s qualifications, professional practices and ethical standards.
The incumbent shall also demonstrate accountability for and contribution to performance improvement activities as applicable, problem solving, and productivity.
II. Employment Qualifications
The incumbent shall be a graduate of a Master’s level program in speech-language pathology which is either accredited by the Educational Standards Board or whose course work and practice meet ASHA certification requirements.
The incumbent shall possess current Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC) from ASHA or be CCC eligible, and hold current state license as applicable.
Experience working with adult and geriatric populations is desirable.
Current BLS certification required or obtained within ninety days of completing new employee orientation.
Experience working in the acute care setting is desirable however is not required
III. Essential Job Functions
Clinical Area
Conduct initial assessments.
Develop individualized treatment plans.
Provide age appropriate therapeutic interventions.
Evaluate patient response to treatment.
Document the course of patient care in the electronic medical record including progress made and continuing need for treatment.
Provide patient and family education on tasks and resources that support continued functional independence and document same in the electronic medical record.
Participate in discharge planning as part of the interdisciplinary team.

Maintain licenses, certifications and memberships in applicable professional organizations as required.
Team Area
Participate in team business meetings.
Function as a resource for and provide team members with education on speech-language pathology knowledge and skill areas.
Contribute to the development of improved efficiency and productivity of the department’s clinical and administrative functions.
Participates as a team member by performing additional assignments not directly related to the job description when workload requires and as requested by supervisor.
Collaborative participation with the interdisciplinary team.
V. Working Conditions
Works in a hospital environment. There may be exposure to bodily fluids, odors, and noise. Minimal exposure to dust and dirt.
