Job Details The Lead Histotechnologist performs a variety of clinical tests exercising independent judgment in the specialties or subspecialties for which they are qualified. The Lead Histotechnologist performs various biochemical, microscopic, blood bank, and/or bacteriological tests to obtain data for use in the evaluation, diagnosis and treatment of disease. Responsibilities: Establishes/monitors the department's quality control policies and ensures documentation of all quality control activities, instrument, and procedural calibrations and maintenance performed. Ensures that departmental supplies are stocked and well maintained. Correlates laboratory methods, procedures, and patient test results with age-specific population criteria and demonstrates appropriate understanding of the needs of patients and visitors for each specific age group. Establishes and implements service priorities, workflow patterns; monitors workflow to assure prompt and efficient delivery of services. Performs the following tasks: Embedding, Microtomy, Special Stains, IHC, and grossing of small biopsies and other relevant duties as needed. Demonstrates the ability to evaluate departmental performance and recommends measures to improve services and quality of current methodologies. Responsible for performing a variety of clinical tests exercising independent judgement in the specialties or subspecialties as qualified; acts as supervisor in the absence of the department supervisor. Requirements: B.S. in Medical Technology or related science from an accredited school. License as a Clinical Laboratory Technologist or Histotechnologist under the NYS Department of Education. Certification by internship and examination from the A.S.C.P. as a registered Medical Technologist or Histotechnologist desired Good oral and written communication skills Four years successful experience as Medical Technologist or Histotechnologist preferred Salary Range USD $53.86 - USD $62.91 /Hr. This range serves as a good faith estimate and actual pay will encompass a number of factors, including a candidate’s qualifications, skills, competencies and experience. The salary range or rate listed does not include any bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation that may be applicable to this job and it does not include the value of benefits.
