How will you make an impact

You will lead all aspects of developing strategy and implementing EHS Programs at our Niche Diagnostics Center of Excellence site in Fremont, CA. This individual will lead and apply safety and environmental compliance efforts. This leader will encourage, empower, and collaborate with others to establish and manage health and safety standards for our teams.

What will you do

Develop a safety strategy and carry out Safety Policies and Procedures in accordance with all local, state, federal, and corporate safety requirements

Ensure Environmental Program Compliance to include air, wastewater, hazardous waste, and storm water permitting as required, including regulatory permitting

Lead our Injury Illness & Prevention Program, Hazardous Communication Plan, Bloodborne Pathogen Program (BBP), Chemical Hygiene Plan, Worker's Compensation and Ergonomics Program

Develop a management strategy to ensure compliance with EHS and Facilities regulations and codes; act as the primary contact to regulatory agencies/government authorities

Own the Employee Safety Training Program, including developing and delivering training curriculum and selecting and evaluating outside consultants/trainers as required

Responsible for safety procedures, providing training, advising on compliance issues, and ensuring a safe work environment

Handle Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) and confined space safety program compliance efforts

Coordinate and conduct the Emergency Response Training and Drills with the Site Emergency Response Team

Specify the procurement and maintenance of safety equipment inventory to ensure that onsite personnel have adequate protection for workplace hazards

Review the procurement of chemicals and materials purchased for production, engineering, and R&D, including the maintenance of the library of SDS’s

Drive efficiency and cost savings in the accumulation, collection, storage, and disposal of waste (hazardous and non-hazardous); and quality, delivery, efficiency, savings of all EHS operations

Conduct site audits and Gembas for compliance with global company standards

Review metrics and conduct trend analysis to identify continuous improvement opportunities

How will you get here

Education/Experience

Bachelor’s degree in safety, environmental management, chemical engineering, or related field

7+ proven experience in a related field with technical/practical knowledge of EHS regulations, codes, and guidelines is required

Technical and practical experience within biotechnology, research and development, and/or manufacturing is helpful, or grit to quickly become proficient is required.

In-depth knowledge of federal and local EHS regulations, including Cal/OSHA and EPA

Excellent leadership and cross-functional collaboration abilities to engage with colleagues to maintain a culture of safety and continuous improvement

Strong organizational skills to lead initiatives, drive projects, host successful audits, maintain certifications, and ensure compliance to regulations and corporate programs and ability to balance daily demands with long-term results

Proficiency with computer applications, including MS Office 365 is required

Capable of lifting up to 50 pounds.

Compensation and Benefits

The salary range estimated for this position based in California is $145,000.00–$210,000.00.
