MISO Energy Demand Response Data Analyst in Carmel, Indiana

Location: Carmel, Indiana; Eagan, Minnesota; Little Rock, Arkansas

The Demand Response Team is hiring a Demand Response Data Analyst . As MISO adds new renewables to the power grid, we need quick, responding reliable resources to deal with the grid of the future. MISO’s Demand Response Team is a new group responsible for the design and administration of the end-to-end process for Demand Response (DR), Distributed Energy Resources (DER), and Load Modifying Resources (LMR) in collaboration with the planning, operations and settlement team. You will perform analytical and economical studies on DER, LMR, and DR market and operational performance, efficiency, and behaviors. You will also review data, evaluate the information, and test the results.

As MISO’s Demand Response Data Analyst , you will:

  • Perform statistical and economic analysis on system and market operations, participant activities, pricing, demand-supply discrepancies, market failure, market anomalies and market design around DER, LMR and DR registration and participation.

  • Conduct assessments with respect to the competitiveness and efficiency of the markets.

  • Perform measurement and verification of DER, LMR and DR performance as well as evaluate compliance to testing requirements.

  • Help evaluate new wholesale electricity market design initiatives and participation models to effectively and efficiently manage DER, LMR and DR due to industry evolvement.

  • Perform studies to optimize DER, LMR and DR participation as well as efficacy of MISO electricity markets.

To be successful as MISO’s Demand Response Data Analyst , we’re looking for the following:

  • Bachelor’s degree in economics, data, mathematics, engineering, or related technical field, with at least 2 years of relevant work experience

  • Specific experience within any of the following:

  1. Energy market forecasting and analysis

  2. Power system analysis and operation and associated software development

  3. Statistical and econometrics analysis

  4. Market design

  5. Optimization algorithms

  • Working knowledge of data analysis tools and programming languages (e.g.: Python, R, VBA, Tableau)

  • Previous deregulated wholesale electricity market or utility experience (preferred)

Appropriate level will be determined based upon experience and knowledge.
