Colonial Pipeline is the largest refined products pipeline in the United States, transporting more than 100 million gallons or 2.5 million barrels per day. Colonial transports various grades of gasoline, diesel fuel, home heating oil, jet fuel, and fuels for the U.S. military through a pipeline system. Colonial transports approximately 45 percent of all fuel consumed on the East Coast, providing refined products to more than 50 million Americans.

About the Pipeline Software Engineer Position

As a Pipeline Software Engineer, you will provide support for existing state-of-the-art applications for modeling, simulation, energy optimization, automatic safety shutdown, Real Time Nomographs (RTNs), and leak detection (i.e., Advanced Pipeline Software) for liquid petroleum pipelines. The Pipeline Staff Engineer will also assist with the configuration of software to support new functionality as well as participating installation and operation activities, and provide support on matters requiring immediate diagnostic response on critical system outages.

  • Support defining interface requirements between Advanced Pipeline Software applications and other real-time, on-line, and batch application processes throughout the company.

  • Participate in the design, development and administration of Advanced Pipeline Software standards and documentation.

  • Perform other assignments as necessary to implement departmental goals.

  • Work with field technicians, other analysts, and engineers to analyze problems related to instrumentation, RTU’s, PLC’s, computers, HMI, related to Advanced Pipeline Software.

  • Provide support on matters requiring immediate diagnostic response on critical system outages.

  • Represent Colonial as required in regulatory inquiries and examinations

What You Bring to the Table:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or Physics from an accredited college or university; will consider a combination of experience and/or education.

  • Ideally, 5 years of experience in the maintenance of Advanced Pipeline Software for liquid petroleum pipelines or Software Applications in related industries including experience with hardware configuration, system tuning, application development, and documentation.

  • Training in SCADA, Hydraulic simulations, and leak detection systems.

  • Ability to perform after hour’s duty as required resolving Advanced Pipeline Software problems.

  • Ability to travel up to 10% of the time.

  • Ideally, 8 years of experience in the maintenance of Advanced Pipeline Software for liquid petroleum pipelines or Software Applications in related industries including experience with hardware configuration, system tuning, application development, documentation, maintenance, and troubleshooting.

  • Professional Engineering License

  • Experience with utilizing Schneider Electric’s OASyS baseline SCADA, HMI screen display software, Windows Desktop/Server, Microsoft SQL Server, .NET Framework, C, C#, VB, and Perl code in MS Windows Server and UNIX environments.

  • Pipeline field experience that includes familiarity with batched pipeline field operations, pipeline equipment, and instrumentation.
